Abstract

PRINTING began at Nantes with an isolated venture in 1493, when on 15 April an otherwise unknown printer named Etienne Larcher com- pleted an edition of Jean Meschinot, Les Lunettes des princes, Vingt-cinq ballades. Commemoratton de la passion. Of this exceptionally rare incun- able the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris has two incomplete copies, one of them printed on vellum; and tbere are eopies also in tbe Biblio- theque Sainte Geneviève, Paris, and at Le Mans, the last-named being also incomplete.
