Tupaia's Sketchbook
Keith Vincent Smith (notes)

A group of watercolours in the British Library painted during the Pacific Ocean voyage of HM Bark Endeavour has long been attributed to the 'Artist of the Chief Mourner', sometimes identified as Joseph Banks. This article identifies the true artist as an indigenous Polynesian, Tupaia.
