Codicological Clues to the Patronage of Stowe MS. 39: A Fifteenth-Century Illustrated Nunís Book in Middle English

Abstract

Stowe MS. 39 is well-known for its Middle English texts (The Abbey of the Holy Ghost, and The Desert of Religion) and illustrations. An examination of its physical make-up leads towards the identification of its original patroness, a Yorkshire nun.
