The electronic databases available in the British Library's London Reading Rooms cover business and intellectual property, the humanities (including rare books and music), manuscripts, maps, science, social science and official publications, newspapers and our Asia, Pacific & Africa Collections.

Owing to licensing restrictions, these resources can only be accessed from British Library workstations within our Reading Rooms and Business & IP Centre.

17th and 18th Century Burney Collection Over 1 million fully-searchable pages of early English news media, 1603 to 1800, representing most of the Burney Collection of newspapers at the British Library. 1271 individual titles including: newsbooks; London, provincial and a some colonial newspapers; pamphlets; and single-sheet ephemera such as broadsides and proclamations.

19th century British Library Newspapers Part of the British Library Newspapers collection, 19th Century British Library Newspapers provides researchers with the most comprehensive collection of national and regional newspapers of Victorian Britain available. This full-text, fully searchable digital archive includes 46 papers originating in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland, carefully selected by an editorial board from the British Library and providing a broad yet detailed view of British life in the 19th century.

Africa: Confidential Print 1834-1966 Confidential Print: Africa consists of the core records relating to British government decision-making on Africa between 1834 and 1966, and is an invaluable source for historians of this period. It includes correspondence and other records that were printed and circulated for discussion within UK government departments. Three hundred maps from other record series have also been added. The resource includes well over 1,000 files and bound volumes, and is free-text searchable.

Archivum Secretum Vaticanum, Registra Vaticana Registra Vaticana (Reg. Vat. 1-523), contains the texts of papal bulls and letters from John VIII (872-882) to Pius II (1458-1464). The registers reproduced belong to one of the largest and most commonly consulted series in the Vatican Archives Registers and consist of digital image reproductions of the manuscript registers of papal letters housed in the Archivio Segreto Vaticano.

Artemis Primary Sources Artemis Primary Sources is an integrated research experience from Gale-Cengage Learning combining major archives of eighteenth and nineteenth century monographs, manuscripts, newspapers, maps, and early photographs to create a powerful cross searchable platform. Audiovisual Library of International Law The Audiovisual Library is a unique, multimedia resource which provides the United Nations with the unprecedented capacity to provide high quality international law training and research materials to an unlimited number of recipients on a global level. The Audiovisual Library consists of three pillars: (1) the Historic Archives containing documents and audiovisual materials relating to the negotiation and adoption of significant legal instruments under the auspices of the United Nations and related agencies since 1945; (2) the Lecture Series featuring a permanent collection of lectures on virtually every subject of international law given by leading international law scholars and practitioners from different countries and legal systems; and (3) the Research Library providing an on-line international law library with links to treaties, jurisprudence, publications and documents, scholarly writings and research guides.

Australian Criminology Database Australian Criminology Database (CINCH), produced by the Australian Institute of Criminology, is a bibliographic database that indexes and abstracts articles from published and unpublished material on all aspects of crime and criminal justice from 1968 onwards.  Source documents include journal articles, monographs, monograph chapters, conference papers, government documents, book reviews and theses. Statistical publications in serial form such as annual statistical reviews are gradually being added to the database.

Coverage is mainly from 1934 to the present, with selective coverage back to 1741.
