The electronic databases available in the British Library's London Reading Rooms cover business and intellectual property, the humanities (including rare books and music), manuscripts, maps, science, social science and official publications, newspapers and our Asia, Pacific & Africa Collections.

Owing to licensing restrictions, these resources can only be accessed from British Library workstations within our Reading Rooms and Business & IP Centre.

Cairn Collection	Collection of high quality, full text peer reviewed academic journals from France and Belgium. The collection includes journals in the fields of history, literature and linguistics, psychology, sociology, political science, education, law and economics. Text and search interface in French. Cambodian Genocide Program	Since 1994, the award-winning Cambodian Genocide Program, a project of the Genocide Studies Program at the Yale Center for International and Area Studies, has been trying to learn as much as possible about the tragedy of 1975/79, and to help determine who was responsible for the crimes of the Pol Pot regime. In Phnom Penh in 1996, for instance the program gained access to the 100,000-page archive of that defunct regime's security police, the Santebal. This material has been microfilmed by Yale University's Sterling Library and made available to scholars worldwide. The team responsible for the program have compiled and published 22,000 biographic and bibliographic records, and over 6,000 photographs, documents, translations, and maps, along with an extensive list of CGP books and research papers on the genocide. Cambrian Index Online	Swansea Central Library's newspaper indexing project contains 400,000 entries, mostly from The Cambrian, published in Swansea from 1804 to 1930. The index covers the major part of the 19th century. All the newspaper's reported birth, marriage and death entries are extracted and indexed, regardless of location. Cambridge Journals Online	Over 220 peer-reviewed academic journals containing the latest research from a broad sweep of subject areas.

Cartoons	Database listing over 18,000 cartoons published in British newspapers, 1912-1990, compiled by the Centre for the Study of Cartoons and Caricature, University of Kent at Canterbury. The Cecil Papers	The Cecil Papers are a privately held archive, consisting principally of the correspondence of William Cecil, Lord Burghley (1520-1598) and his son, Robert, the 1st Earl of Salisbury (1563-1612). These two men dominated the administration of government during the reign of Elizabeth I. The database offers full-colour images digitised directly from the original Cecil Papers manuscripts at Hatfield House Archives and a digitised version of the Calendar of the Manuscripts of the Marquess of Salisbury. Central and Eastern European Online Library	Online database which provides access to full text articles from humanities and social sciences journals, electronic books and re-digitised documents pertaining to Central, South-Eastern, Baltic and Eastern European topics. Cetedoc Christian Latin Texts	This database contains the complete Latin texts of the Corpus Patrum Latinorum (including the Corpus Christianorum, Series Latina, and the Continuatio Mediaevalis), as well as the Vulgate, Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament, the complete works of Augustine, Jerome, and many others. Chemical Abstracts 12th (1987-1991) 13th (1992-1996) 14th (1997-2001)	A five-year cumulative index to chemical and chemical engineering literature. Chicano Database	Identifies, in one place, all types of material about Chicanos and provides uniform subject access. Incorporates the Spanish Speaking Mental Health Database, a comprehensive resource covering psychological, sociological, and educational literature. Also includes (1992 to the present) the broader Latino experience of Puerto Ricans, Cuban Americans, and Central American immigrants. Coverage is mainly from the 1960s to the present, with selective coverage back to the early 1900s. China: Trade, Politics and Culture, 1793-1980	China: Trade, Politics and Culture 1793-1980 is based on substantial collections of unique manuscript materials held at the library of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and the British Library in London, supplemented by additional sources from Cambridge University Library, the Church Missionary Society Archive, the Council for World Missions Library, Duke University, the National Archives at Kew, the Alexander Turnbull Library at the National Library of New Zealand and Yale Divinity Library. In addition we have included a range of rare printed materials including missionary periodicals, atlases and books which help to contextualize the other sources. China Academic Journals	Full text articles from hundreds of Chinese academic journals on literature/history/philosophy, economics/politics/law, education/social science from 1994 to present. Interface available in both Chinese and English. Many journals in Chinese include English abstracts. NB: Please note, the Library does not subscribe to the other databases listed; but you can also search for references from the Century Journal Project. China/Asia On Demand (CAOD)	China/Asia On Demand (CAOD)/Asia Document Delivery is a powerful Web-based research, access and electronic information solution. Provides access to a wide range of journals (9,638 titles), millions of theses and dissertations, patents and conference proceeding papers. Articles can be retrieved and downloaded in their original format including graphs and illustrations. NB: Depending on the article you require there are two methods of accessing the full text. Having clicked on the Full text link, click the 'Confirm to continue' button, click 'OK in the Microsoft dialog box and then select the Full text link presented. If that fails, choose the 'Click here to enter your mail address' option (just above the 'Confirm' button), enter your email address, click the 'Confirm' button, click 'OK in the dialog box and then make a note of the transaction number displayed. Revisit the site later and enter the transaction number into the Order Options Track box on the left-hand side of the screen; then select the Full text link presented. Chinese catalogue allegro-C	British Library catalogue of Chinese printed materials in the Chinese collections of the Asia, Pacific & African Collections (excluding Chinese language items in other British Library collections), mainly from the 20th century but including some old and rare works. Current and retronconverted bibliographic records are added as they are produced. (Publications not yet included can be searched in the APAC Reading Room card catalogues, periodicals lists etc.) NB: Access to this database is limited to the workstation in Carrel 36 of the Asian & African Studies Reading Room only. Chinese Cultural Revolution Database	The largest database for the study of the Cultural Revolution with detailed original documents including CCP memos, instructions, proclamations, speeches and major media commentaries. Chinese Song Period Resources 960-1279	Song Research Tools is an online research guide that lists and describes reference materials relating to all aspects of Song society. The online edition, last updated in November 2006, is a revised edition of Peter Bol's Sung Research Tools, which appeared first in 1990 and in a second edition in 1996. Chinese UK Union Catalogue	Includes more than 100,000 records from the catalogues of the British Library's Chinese collections, and those of the university libraries of Cambridge, Durham, Edinburgh, Leeds and the School of Oriental and African Studies (London). Since it is not exhaustive, it *supplements* rather than replaces these individual catalogues. This site is freely available on the Internet. Chronicling America: Historic American Newspapers	This site from the Library of Congress allows you to search and view American newspaper pages from 1860 -1922 and find information about American newspapers published between 1690 and the present. Churchill Archive	Over 800,000 pages of digitised primary source material, including Churchill's papers (owned by the Churchill estate) - correspondence, speeches, and official documents - as well as ancillary and secondary materials related to the career of Churchill. CINAHL Plus 1937 to present	CINAHL Plus provides indexing for 3,802 journals from the fields of nursing and allied health. It also contains searchable cited references for more than 1,270 journals. Full text material includes nearly 80 journals plus legal cases, clinical innovations, critical paths, drug records, research instruments and clinical trials. CINCH (Australian Criminology Database)	Australian Criminology Database (CINCH), produced by the Australian Institute of Criminology, is a bibliographic database that indexes and abstracts articles from published and unpublished material on all aspects of crime and criminal justice from 1968 onwards. Source documents include journal articles, monographs, monograph chapters, conference papers, government documents, book reviews and theses. Statistical publications in serial form such as annual statistical reviews are gradually being added to the database. COBRA (Complete Business Reference Adviser)	An essential encyclopaedia of practical information for starting, running and managing a small business. Includes more than 4,000 fact sheets, plus local area profiles and guides to writing business and marketing plans. Cochrane Library	A compilation of evidence about the effects of health care, including the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. This resource is freely available on the Internet.
Codex Sinaiticus	Codex Sinaiticus is one of the most important books in the world. Handwritten well over 1600 years ago, the manuscript contains the Christian Bible in Greek, including the oldest complete copy of the New Testament. Its heavily corrected text is of outstanding importance for the history of the Bible and the manuscript - the oldest substantial book to survive Antiquity - is of supreme importance for the history of the book. The Codex Sinaiticus Project is an international collaboration to reunite the entire manuscript in digital form and make it accessible to a global audience for the first time. COI Archive Database	The Central Office of Information Archive at the British Library consists of a unique collection of over 15,000 free information and guidance leaflets, posters, booklets and other promotional materials dating from the 1940s to 1997. The materials were designed and produced for a range of UK government departments and agencies by the Central Office of Information, which deposited its master set of file copies with the British Library in 2000. Columbia Gazetteer of the world	Including both modern and historical place names, this site gives locations for places throughout the world. Comintern Archive	An index to the archive and microform collections held at the Russian Centre for the Conservation and Study of Records of Modern History. The Comintern Archive contains original documents from over 35 communist and left-socialist parties, together with other international organisations from 21 different countries. Communist Party of Great Britain archives	The archive includes records from the Executive Committee, National Congresses, the Industrial Department. CommunityWise	Consists of the following six databases: Community abstracts, People in Parliament, Research in Volunteering, Social Strategy Plans (full text), Voluntary and Community Sector Research, and Community Organisations. Compendex (Available through Engineering Village)	Compendex is a comprehensive interdisciplinary engineering database, covering the entire spectrum of engineering, with abstracts from over 5,000 journals, conference papers and proceedings, and technical reports.
Conference Papers Index 1982 to present	Conference Papers provides citations to papers and poster sessions presented at major scientific meetings around the world. Subject emphasis since 1995 has been in the life sciences, environmental sciences and the aquatic sciences, while older material also covers physics, engineering and materials science. Information is derived from final programs, abstracts booklets and published proceedings, as well as from questionnaire responses. Records include complete ordering information to obtain preprints, abstracts, proceedings and other publications derived from the conference, together with title and author information needed to track the specific papers. Confidential Print: Africa 1834-1966	Confidential Print: Africa consists of the core records relating to British government decision-making on Africa between 1834 and 1966, and is an invaluable source for historians of this period. It includes correspondence and other records that were printed and circulated for discussion within UK government departments. Three hundred maps from other record series have also been added. Congressional District Atlas of the United States	Maps and tables cover all 50 states, District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Congressional Hearings Digital Collection, 1824-1979	A hearing is a meeting or session of a Senate, House, joint, or special committee of Congress, usually open to the public, to obtain information and opinions on proposed legislation, conduct an investigation, or evaluate/oversee the activities of a government department or the implementation of a Federal law. In addition, hearings may also be purely exploratory in nature, providing testimony and data about topics of current interest. This collection includes the full text of published and unpublished hearings from 1824 to 1979.
Congressional Record Permanent Digital Collection, 1873-1997	Full text of verbatim debates of the US Senate and House of Representatives, with subject heading, speaker, bill and public law number search facilities available. Congressional Research Documents Collection, 2004-2011	Full text of Congressional Research Service reports and Congressional Committee prints. CRS reports cover social policy, American law, foreign affairs, trade, defence, science and industry and US government and finance. A committee print can contain anything relevant to the legislative and oversight functions of Congress. They include research papers, compilations of laws, legislative descriptions and analyses and transcripts of mark up sessions. Contemporary Authors	Gives biographical details for over 100,000 modern writers. Writers covered include: novelists, poets, playwrights, non-fiction writers, journalists, scriptwriters. Corpus dei Manoscritti Copti Letterari	Corpus dei Manoscritti Copti Letterari [Corpus of Coptic Literary manuscripts] contains the descriptions of literary Coptic manuscripts in the Casalini Library (Italy) compiled by Prof.T.Orlandi. This database compliments the published Catalogue of Coptic Literary Manuscripts in the British Library acquired since the year 1906 prepared by Bentley Layton (London,1987). These two collections together form the largest and most important resources for Coptic studies in the west. NB: This resource is password protected. Credo Reference	Credo Reference is an online reference library that provides access to a large number of encyclopedias, dictionaries, thesauri and other reference books. This collection is a valuable resource for researchers interested in sports, tourism, gender roles and sexuality in Russia, as revealed in sports periodicals. The Current Digest of the Russian Press Digital Archive 1949 to the present. In English	CDRP is a comprehensive retrospective digest of the news presented to the Soviet and Russian public for more than a half century, from the beginnings of the Cold War through the emergence of Russia in the new balance of power. Articles translated for the Current Digest include important news and information from the leading dailies and government reports of the day. During the Soviet era, hundreds of other special interest journals and authoritative sources were also scoured for relevant articles to include. Published with this care weekly since 1949, the CDRP paints a broad picture of Soviet and post-Soviet times, including coverage of domestic affairs and social issues.
