The electronic databases available in the British Library's London Reading Rooms cover business and intellectual property, the humanities (including rare books and music), manuscripts, maps, science, social science and official publications, newspapers and our Asia, Pacific & Africa Collections.

Owing to licensing restrictions, these resources can only be accessed from British Library workstations within our Reading Rooms and Business & IP Centre.

Except where indicated, titles are available in all the Library's London Reading Rooms.

Early American Newspapers, Series I (1690-1876) Reproductions of hundreds of historic newspapers, providing more than one million pages as fully text-searchable facsimile images. The collection is based largely on Clarence Brigham's "History and Bibliography of American Newspapers,1690-1820".
Remote access is available for registered St Pancras Reader Pass holders.

Early Music Online Early Music Online is a pilot project in which 300 of the world’s earliest surviving volumes of printed music, held in the British Library, have been digitised and made freely available online. You can browse the digitised content in the Royal Holloway's digital repository. You can also view detailed descriptions of the content via the catalogue records in Explore the British Library.

Early Western Korans Online: Koran Printing in the West, 1537-1857 This remarkable collection demonstrates the impact of the holy book of Islam in Europe. Long before printing with movable type became common practice in the Islamic world, Korans had been printed in Arabic type in several European cities. The collection includes Korans and Koran translations, printed between 1537 and 1857, and is of interest to book historians, theologians, philologists, and scholars of Islamic Studies alike.

ECCO:Eighteenth Century Collections Online When complete, ECCO will make available nearly 150,000 English-language titles and editions published between 1701 and 1800, scanned and with searchable full text. The collection is based on The English Short Title Catalogue (ESTC), a machine-readable union list of the holdings of the British Library, as well as those from more than 1,500 university, private, and public libraries worldwide.

Election Ephemera Collections (includes election campaigns in Russia and the countries of the former Soviet Union from 2010) - The Election Ephemera Collections series offers the most comprehensive collection of election related material to date from the countries of the former Soviet Union. Representing a vast repository of primary source material from both presidential and parliamentary elections the databases are a one of a kind first stop for policy analysts and observers of electoral politics in the countries of the CIS. The central component of these databases is the unique election ephemera that include party programs, propaganda material, collection of special editions of newspapers and literature produced by political parties or candidates with the aim of shaping the election narrative in a low-information setting.
Electronic Englightenment Electronic Enlightenment is a wide-ranging online collection of edited correspondence of the early modern period, linking people across Europe, the Americas and Asia from the early 17th to the mid-19th century, to reconstruct one of the world's great historical “conversations”. It includes over 60,000 historical documents representing an exchange between 8000 historical figures on subjects including religion, science, economics, society and culture.

Empire Online Full digital facsimiles of printed and manuscript materials relevant to the history of the British Empire. The project is being published in five sections between 2003 and 2007 offering c60,000 images of original documents linked to essays by leading scholars in the field. EThOS The UK's national theses service containing over 350,000 records from over 120 awarding institutions. Some theses have been digitised and are available as full text downloads or as links from the institutional repository. Remaining theses are available for scanning through EThOS digitisation-on-demand, and there may be a charge for this. Records are held for all PhD-awarding institutions, but EThOS does not (yet) hold all records for all institutions.
