The electronic databases available in the British Library's London Reading Rooms cover business and intellectual property, the humanities (including rare books and music), manuscripts, maps, science, social science and official publications, newspapers and our Asia, Pacific & Africa Collections.

Owing to licensing restrictions, these resources can only be accessed from British Library workstations within our Reading Rooms and Business & IP Centre.

Except where indicated, titles are available in all the Library's London Reading Rooms.

Early American Newspapers, Series I (1690-1876) Reproductions of hundreds of historic newspapers, providing more than one million pages as fully text-searchable facsimile images. The collection is based largely on Clarence Brigham's "History and Bibliography of American Newspapers,1690-1820".
Remote access is available for registered St Pancras Reader Pass holders.

Early Music Online Early Music Online is a pilot project in which 300 of the world’s earliest surviving volumes of printed music, held in the British Library, have been digitised and made freely available online. You can browse the digitised content in the Royal Holloway's digital repository. You can also view detailed descriptions of the content via the catalogue records in Explore the British Library.

Early Russian Cinema Unique collection of Russian film periodicals published during the last decade of the Tsarist regime. The collection includes sophisticated, bi-monthly periodicals as well as more popular weeklies released by the major Russian film studios. Containing, amongst others, interviews with movie stars and screenplays that are now irretrievably lost, these journals are an invaluable source of information for researchers interested in the silent movie era and Russia's entertainment industry at the eve of the Revolution. Published by IDC as part of the series Mass Culture and Entertainment Life in Russia.

Empire Online Full digital facsimiles of printed and manuscript materials relevant to the history of the British Empire. The project is being published in five sections between 2003 and 2007 offering c60,000 images of original documents linked to essays by leading scholars in the field. EThOS The UK's national theses service containing over 350,000 records from over 120 awarding institutions. Some theses have been digitised and are available as full text downloads or as links from the institutional repository. Remaining theses are available for scanning through EThOS digitisation-on-demand, and there may be a charge for this. Records are held for all PhD-awarding institutions, but EThOS does not (yet) hold all records for all institutions.
