Electronic databases - title list F: Available in the Library's Reading Rooms

The electronic databases available in the British Library's London Reading Rooms cover business and intellectual property, the humanities (including rare books and music), manuscripts, maps, science, social science and official publications, newspapers and our Asia, Pacific & Africa Collections.

Owing to licensing restrictions, these resources can only be accessed from British Library workstations within our Reading Rooms and Business & IP Centre.

Except where indicated, titles are available in all the Library's London Reading Rooms.

Faber Poetry Library

A collection of some of the most influential poets of the twentieth century. The Faber list spans the seventy-year history of this major publishing house, and includes the poetry of James Joyce, Siegfried Sassoon, T.S. Eliot, Ted Hughes, Sylvia Plath and Seamus Heaney. In total The Faber Poetry Library contains 140 volumes by 50 poets.

NB: This resource is available in the Business & IP Centre (Level 1), the Social Sciences Reading Room and two designated PCs in the Newspaper Library at Colindale only.

Families & Society Collection Families & Society Collection (formerly Family & Society Plus) is the authoritative Australian full text family information service. It provides access to citations and abstracts plus full text journal articles and over 9000 links to other full text material available on the web. Source documents include journal articles, conference papers, books, government publications, research reports, discussion and working papers, statistical documents, annual reports, bibliographies and theses. Subject coverage includes adolescence and youth, care of older people, health policy, family law and social change. Full text coverage is from 2000: index coverage from 1980.

It includes every article, advertisement and market listing, providing access to thousands of daily price/stock indexes and currency tables – an invaluable source of historic daily financial data.

Find My Past Search over 1.5 billion family history records  including parish registers, censuses, military records and a variety of biographical records sourced from the India Office Records held at the British Library. Reading room access permits index searches, images and transcription views for most major record sets but does not include specialist records or the functionality for saving family trees.

Foreign Office Confidential Prints Between 1827 and 1914 documents of significance were distributed to foreign official officials as Confidential Prints. The Index to the set covering prints 1-10,000 has been transcribed into a searchable database. The British Library set at BS.14/3509 is incomplete; please check the hard copy numerical list in the Social Sciences Reading Room before ordering.

FRANCIS Indexes multilingual, multidisciplinary information published in over 4,200 journals covering the Humanities (67%), social sciences (30%), and economics (3%). The database is strong in religion, the history of art, psychology, and literature (with particular emphasis on current trends in European and world literature). It contains bilingual (English - French) subject descriptors, and has abstracts in 80% of the records. FRANCIS represents a wide range of materials, including serials, journal articles, books, book chapters, conference papers, French dissertations, exhibition catalogues, legislation, teaching materials, and reports.

FRANTEXT Developed by the Institut national de la langue française, FRANTEXT is a corpus of over 3500 mainly literary texts from the 16th to the 20th century. It is possible to search across the entire collection or to limit the search to a particular author, title, genre, date or other combination. The sub-corpus (sous ensemble de textes catégorisés) supports more detailed grammatical searches.
