The electronic databases available in the British Library's London Reading Rooms cover business and intellectual property, the humanities (including rare books and music), manuscripts, maps, science, social science and official publications, newspapers and our Asia, Pacific & Africa Collections.

Owing to licensing restrictions, these resources can only be accessed from British Library workstations within our Reading Rooms and Business & IP Centre.

Except where indicated, titles are available in all the Library's London Reading Rooms.

Index Islamicus Index Islamicus is the international classified bibliography of publications in European languages on all aspects of Islam and the Muslim world. The publications recorded are (journal) articles, books and reviews. All essays and papers contained in multi-author volumes are recorded, classified and indexed separately. About 2500 periodicals are surveyed, including general history, social science, history of science and arts titles as well as specialist area- and subject-based ones. Some relevant articles and reviews published electronically are also recorded.

India Office Family History Search The India Office Family History Search database will eventually provide access to around 300,000 brief records for births, marriages, military and naval service, deaths, burials, baptisms, bonds, pensions, wills and brief biographies of Europeans in British India up to 1947. (The information is taken from the biographical card index in the Asian and African Studies reading room. Integrated Tariff of the United Kingdom The Tariff consists of 3 volumes:
  • Volume 1 contains essential background information for importers and exporters. It covers duty relief schemes, contact addresses for organisations such as Department Of Trade and Industry, Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (formerly MAFF) and Forestry Commission. It also contains an explanation of Excise duty, Tariff Quotas and many similar topics.
  • Volume 2 contains the 65,000 or so Commodity Codes set-out on a chapter-by-chapter basis. It lists duty rates and other directions such as import licensing and preferential duty rates.
  • Volume 3 contains a box-by-box completion guide for import and export entries - the C88 form, the complete list of Customs Procedure Codes (CPCs) for importing and exporting, the Country Codes for the world, lists of UK docks and airports both alphabetically and by their Entry Processing Unit (EPU) numbers, and further general information about importing or exporting.

Iraq 1914-1974 Iraq 1914-1974 comprises original source material from the Foreign Office, Colonial Office, War Office and Cabinet Papers covering the period from the Anglo-Indian landing in Basra in 1914 through the British Mandate in Iraq of 1920-32 to the rise of Saddam Hussein in 1974. Major policy statements and other working documents are set out in context, the minor documents and marginalia revealing the workings of the mandate administration, diplomacy, treaties, oil and arms dealing. The resource includes photographs, colour maps from The National Archives and contemporary film.

Isskustvo kino Founded in the 1930s and devoted to art in Russian film, the journal Iskusstvo kino is renowned as one of Russia's premier journals of cinema. Iskusstvo kino offers movie reviews, articles on filmmaking and cinema culture, criticism, and essays and traces Russian arts and culture from the 'socialist realism' era - when film became the prime propaganda tool ("agitki") for instilling Communist fervour in the masses - all the way through contemporary filmmaking. Izvestiia Digital Archive (DA-IZV)

 

A full archive of the newspaper Izvestiia. Among the longest-running Russian newspapers, Izvestiia was founded in March 1917 and during the Soviet period was the official organ of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Remarkable for its serious and balanced treatment of subject matter, Izvestiia has traditionally been a popular news source within intellectual and academic circles.
