Electronic databases - title list U: Available in the Library's Reading Rooms

The electronic databases available in the British Library's London Reading Rooms cover business and intellectual property, the humanities (including rare books and music), manuscripts, maps, science, social science and official publications, newspapers and our Asia, Pacific & Africa Collections.

Owing to licensing restrictions, these resources can only be accessed from British Library workstations within our Reading Rooms and Business & IP Centre.

Except where indicated, titles are available in all the Library's London Reading Rooms.

UK Union Catalogue of Chinese Books	Includes more than 100,000 records from the catalogues of the British Library's Chinese collections, and those of the university libraries of Cambridge, Durham, Edinburgh, Leeds and the School of Oriental and African Studies (London). Thus it supplements rather than replaces these individual catalogues. The database can be accessed externally at http://www.sinica.ac.uk where further details of the project can be found. UKOP Online	Bibliographic database of Parliamentary and non-Parliamentary publications published by TSO and its predecessor HMSO, publications of intergovernmental organisations for which TSO/HMSO is the sales agent, and publications of government departments and agencies published directly and not by TSO/HMSO with links to full text of selected documents. UKpressonline	Ukpressonline provides text searchable access to full page facsimiles of some of the UK’s biggest selling popular newspapers of the 20th and 21st centuries. The archive is currently under construction but already complete are the Daily Mirror 1903 to date, Daily Express / Sunday Express May 2000 to date, the Daily Star May 2000 to date, and the Star Sunday September 2002 to date. The Daily Express 20th Century Archives is now under construction and around 180,000 pages covering selected dates between 1900 and 1982 are also currently available.
Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry	Covers the science and technology in all areas of industrial chemistry including organic and inorganic chemicals, pharmaceuticals, polymers and plastics, metals and alloys, food chemistry etc. For help with this resource: see staff at the Science Reference Enquiry desk.
Ulrich's Periodicals Directory	Provides information on international publishers, corporate authors, periodicals, serials, annuals, continuations etc. Also complete names and addresses of many serials publishers and distributors world-wide. UN Index	The current database of all United Nations documents and publications of the period. The data is bibliographic except for UN resolutions, which are in full text. This archival disc is received annually; for current material use access UN. NB: Only available from the standalone terminal in the Social Sciences Reading Room. Underground and Independent Comics	A scholarly online collection for researchers of adult comic books and graphic novels. Beginning with the first underground comix from the 1960s to the work of modern sequential artists to the present day, content is supplemented by interviews, criticism, and journal articles. United Nations Demographic Yearbook	Compilation of international demographic statistics prepared by the Statistics Division of the United Nations and providing information on 229 countries and areas of the world. Includes times series of population size, age, sex and urban/ rural residence, natality, mortality and nuptiality as well as selected derived measures concerning these components of population change. United Nations Treaty Collection	Includes full text of the UN Treaty Series, Dec. 1946-Apr. 2003, a collection of treaties and international agreements registered with the Secretary-General; full text of the earlier League of Nations Treaty Series, July 1920-Oct.1944; Status of Multilateral Treaties Deposited with the Secretary General (as of 1st January 2006); and the Index to the UN Treaty Series.
