Director General of the CBI and "Mr Knowledge Transfer", Richard Lambert, visited the Library recently, and gave a ringing endorsement of the Library and the Business & IP Centre. A guest speaker at the launch of the IKT, he referred to the Library as a "cathedral for knowledge transfer .the perfect place to launch the Institute of Knowledge Transfer".

"It's great to be able to do all my market assessment in one go in one place, and the Business & IP Centre lets me do that. I find it really worth my while to travel from Sheffield to use the Centre - nowhere has such a great range of business and market information in one place, and all free to use."

Graeme Hitchen is responsible for the business assessment of IP at the University of Sheffield. An evaluation of the market is an essential first step in establishing whether the IP has commercial value, and an accurate assessment can save thousands of pounds in patenting costs.

Graeme uses the market research and business information databases in the Business & IP Centre to get the latest information about the market size and key players in a huge range of specialised research areas. Frost & Sullivan, for example, provides in-depth market research and strategy reports in key industry sectors, and, for Graeme, provides an excellent assessment of market size and an indication of possible partner companies.
