Robert Harpham executed for coining 2

Background

Robert Harpham was a skilled carpenter and craftsman who turned his talents to 'coining', the making of counterfeit coins.

Perhaps because the victims of coining were the rich and powerful, coiners were given harsh punishments. Coining was a hanging offence until 1851.
