Source 7 - Election Handbill

This is a campaigning handbill, probably produced at some time in the 1820s. The handbill intended to reveal to the British public the inhumanity of a slave's life by referring to freedoms that they would take for granted.

  • How do you think the questions are intended to be answered?
  • What does it suggest about the human rights of slaves?
  • Why do you think it might have worked well with the general public? Do you think it gets its message across?
  • How does it differ from the other campaigning sources you've looked at?
