In this book Lieutenant-General Sir Montagu Gilbert Gerard reminisces on his twenty years service in India , Afghanistan and Egypt from 1865-1885.

In the selected extracts the author discusses the perils of hunting in the jungle, recalling incidents involving charging panthers and swarming wild bees. It is clear that English officers were causing havoc within a landscape that they did not understand. The stories are told as a series of amusing and curious tales.
