Georgians Revealed: Life, Style and the Making of Modern Britain
Discover the Georgians as they really were through 200 beautiful images and objects – each one telling the delightful, and sometime delirious, stories of their lives. Lives that made us much of who we are today.
The exhibition draws on the Library’s exceptionally rich and rare collections of illustrated books, maps and views, as well as newspapers, playbills and advertisements. Together with loaned items, such as furniture and porcelain, the exhibition reveals the drama of Georgian daily life.
Workshops accompanying the exhibition are available for school groups. Sessions include a series of activities led by one of our team of workshop leaders and develop skills in historical enquiry, research and critical thinking. In the session, students will explore the social and cultural life of the period and its enormous influence on 21st-century Britain. Using a range of activities, participants will investigate travel and trade, consumerism and celebrity culture, public entertainments and print culture.
Workshops will also provide a useful contextual study for English students studying Georgian literature.
A CPD conference for Secondary History teachers inspired by the exhibition, Georgians Revealed: Life, Style and the Making of Modern Britain, will take place on Saturday 30 November 2013. In partnership with the Schools History Project. |
