Workshop outline

Research Matters is a creative workshop about research and is ideal for a first visit.

This cross-curricular session introduces students to the concept of research, broadening their understanding of what it is and the value of it. Participants will explore the role the British Library plays in research, through its collections and building. Using creative activities, students will develop their critical thinking skills and be encouraged to reflect on their own research processes. Participants will investigate questions such as: How do you do research? How do you record your research outcomes? How can you use source material to inform your research? Are there different approaches to research?

Exploring the galleries and public spaces, students will leave the workshop thinking about approaches to research in a new way. Please note that, as with all our workshops, we’re unable to take groups into the Reading Rooms.

This session is also available as a study day. This all day session runs from 10.30-2.30pm (including breaks). The full day offers an opportunity to build on some of the research processes explored during the morning and apply it in practice, in the gallery spaces, in the afternoon. Please indicate if you’d like the workshop or study day on your booking form.
