On 21 June, the conference centre played host to over 100 students and teachers for the day. The programme offered the chance to explore Jane Austen’s work from a new perspective, participate in authentic Regency dancing, hear experts speak on 19th century English literature and meet Elizabeth Bennet!
The British Library and Jane Austen’s House Museum worked in partnership to deliver an exciting student conference that engaged learners with Jane Austen’s work and offered innovative ideas for the contextualisation of 19th century English Literature.
Feedback from participants included “excellent introduction into Library resources and venue”, “talks were superb!” and “the whole day was informative, interesting and inspiring”.
This conference was part of Literature in Context, a two year project that aims to develop new models through which museums and archives can support English Literature study at key stages 3-5.
