Boston Spa Reading Room refurbishment - February/March 2014
The Boston Spa Reading Room is being refurbished over the next few weeks to update the facility and provide an improved working environment for our users. We are also updating our visitor reception area.
We are able to maintain the majority of our usual services to Readers in a temporary location though there will be some disruption:
- Reduced number of PCs (for searching for references etc) – please order items in advance wherever possible to avoid delays when visiting the Reading Room
- Fewer photocopiers are available in our temporary facilities
- Unfortunately are not able to offer access to the Library’s collection of recorded sound and video via the SoundServer database during the refurbishment work.
Equipment to support visually impaired Readers is available as usual.
Alternative access routes to the temporary Reading Room and reception area will be introduced as required. Some level of disruption is expected for up to six weeks.
The work is taking place in advance of some of our newspaper collections (including digital collections and 'unsurrogated' print collections) becoming available at Boston Spa. As well as creating workspaces for consulting the newspaper collections, the refurbishment will improve security in the areas where collection items are being handled.
Thank you for your understanding.
