Boston Spa Reading Room refurbishment
In parallel with the work to develop the Newsroom at St Pancras, the Reading Room at Boston Spa site is being refurbished. These improvements will enable access to print newspapers, where no microfilm or digital copies exist, once they become available to order in autumn 2014. As well as creating workspaces for consulting the newspaper collections, the refurbishment will improve security.
We are providing most of our usual services to Readers in a temporary space, though there is some disruption:
- Reduced number of PCs (for searching for references etc.) – please order items in advance to avoid delays when visiting the Reading Room
- Fewer photocopiers are available in our temporary facilities
- We are not able to offer access to the Library’s collection of recorded sound and video via the SoundServer database during the refurbishment work
Equipment to support visually impaired Readers is available as usual.
The bulk of construction work will be complete by early April. Decorating and finishing off will take a few more weeks before the refurbished Reading Room reopens on Tuesday 6 May.
We are taking this opportunity to install security cameras both in the Reading Room and in our Reception area.
We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
