Narrative 13: Lieutenant Parish & William Alexander
Lieutenant Parish made technical drawings of the Great Wall as the Embassy proceeded by road to the Imperial summer resort. William Alexander who, as the second draughtsman on the Embassy, had been left behind in Peking, made a very convincing watercolour of the Wall, sight unseen, based upon Parish's plans and elevations.
