A Tribute to HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother 1900 - 2002
1939: Outbreak of War, Queen Broadcasts to Empire
"THE QUEEN: 'BE BRAVE'
In a moving message of encouragement to the Empire's Women, the Queen last night spoke of her loneliness as a mother parted from her children by war. She sympathised with the women whose only part, while others had found excitement, was the work of the home. Millions all over the world heard her ten-minute talk, which revealed her as a stirring speaker."
