View near Sakrigali (Bihar). 1796-97
Artist: Colebrooke, Robert Hyde (1762-1808)
Pencil and water-colour drawing by Robert Hyde Colebrooke of a view near Sakrigali in Bihar, dated 1796-97. Inscribed on mount in pencil: 'An Invalid Village near Sicrigully. Indian Scenery by R. Colebrooke 1796. R.H. Colebrooke delint. 1796-7'; on back in ink:' View of an invalid Village near Sikrigully. R.H. Colebrooke delint. 1796-7.'
Sakrigali, along the river Ganges, was situated at the foot of a pass into the adjoining hills and it was a favourite spot for boats to anchor. Around there the artist drew the view of a native village.
