Water-colour painting of the Pedanaikdurgum Pass in Andhra Pradesh by John Gantz (1772-1853) in 1800. Inscribed on the front in ink is: 'John Gantz Delt. 1800'; on the back in ink: 'East View of Pedanaikdurgum Pass.'

The Pedanaikdurgum Pass runs through the Eastern Ghats in southern India. It is guarded by a fort which was strategically important during the Anglo-Mysore Wars. British troops cleared the pass in March 1791 and camped here on the way from Amboor to Vencatighery where they were joined by a large force made up of approximately 5,000 men.
