Pencil and wash drawing of the Asafgarh Fort in Uttar Pradesh by Thomas (1749-1840) and William (1769-1837) Daniell, 3 April 1789. Inscribed on the front in pencil is:' 29'; on the back in ink: 'Nr 20. S.E. Bastion of Asoph Ghur'; in pencil: 'No.13. South East Bastion of Assuph Gur.' 'April 3. 1789.'

The fort of Asafghar, named after Asaf al-Daula (Nawab Vizier, 1775-97), was built above the Ganges on the north side of the Rao tributary, opposite to the fort of Sabalgarh on the south side. It long ago was swept away by the rivers in spate.
