Kolar is a city in south-eastern Karnataka (formerly Mysore) in southern India, located 22 kilometres to the east of Bangalore. It was formerly a small mining town and produced a sizeable amount of gold during the days of the British Raj. Nationals from Britain, Italy, Germany and India were all employed in the mining industry at Kolar during the period.
