Pencil and wash drawing of Pedanaikdurgum Ghat in Andhra Pradesh by Thomas (1749-1840) and William (1769-1837) Daniell, 21 April 1792. Inscribed on the front in pencil is: 'Buturhullee Ghaut'; on the back in ink: '22 Pedinaigdurgum' 'ghaut.'

The Pedanaikdurgum Pass runs through the Eastern Ghats and is guarded by a fort which was strategically important during the Anglo-Mysore Wars. British troops cleared the pass in March 1791 and camped here on the way from Amboor to Vencatighery where they were joined by a large force made up of approximately 5,000 men.
