Water-colour painting of the house of Gilbert Money, a judge at Mirzapur by Stanley Leighton (1837-1901), 8 November 1868. Inscribed on the mount in pencil is: 'Mr Gilbert Money's house, Mirzapore. Sunday 8 Nov. 1868.'

Mirzapur is an ancient city on the Ganga River surrounded by hills and situated about halfway between Varanasi and Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh state, north central India. The town was formerly an important trading centre between central and western India and contains the famous shrine of the goddess Vindhyeshwari which is visited by many pilgrims. Along the river front are picturesque stone ghats, mosques, Hindu temples and houses.
