Artist: Leighton, Stanley (1837-1901)
Medium: Pencil on paper
Pencil drawing of Agori Fort in Uttar Pradesh by Stanley Leighton (1837-1901) in December 1868. Inscribed on the front in pencil is: 'Agrore Fort on the Soane. Mirzapore district. Dec. 1868. S.L.'
Agori, situated on the river Son (or Sone) in the Mirzapur District, is an ancient town once sacred to the non-brahminical gods of the local aboriginals and only comparatively recently assimilated into more orthodox Hinduism.
