Hilly landscape at Chicacole, Ganjam district
Wash drawing of a hilly landscape at Chicacole, Ganjam district by an unknown artist between 1784 and 1816. Inscribed on the front in ink is: 'Chicacole District'; in pencil: 'Sketched to the Northward.'
Chicacole is situated in the Ganjam District of Orissa on the right bank of the River Languliya, four miles from its mouth. The town was once the capital of Chiacole Sarkar, one of five Northern Circars under Muslim rule. It was later a capital of the British during their rule here and was an important military station and the residence of the District Judge.
