Water-colour drawing of the guest house of the Coorg Raja with a fort in the background and tents in the foreground by John Johnson (c.1769-1846) between c.1795 and 1801. A Madras army sepoy is standing guard. This image is from a sketch-book of 36 drawings (36 folios) depicting scenes chiefly in West India and Mysore, c.1795 to 1801. An inscription accompanying this drawing reads: 'Coorg Rajah's bungalow built purposely for the reception, entertainment of Europeans'; and: 'Coorg Rajah's Banqueting House built purposely for the entertainment of European Gentlemen.'
