Folio 69 inscribed in pen and ink: 'Ancient sculptures carved on a temple at Amrutpore in the district of Turrykeira in Bednore 1805. On the right hand of the Principal Entrance', from an album of 156 drawings (185 folios) chiefly of architecture and sculpture in S. India, dated 1803-08. The drawings depict specimens of architecture and sculpture mainly from Kolar, Sravana Belgola, Conjeeveram, Shimoga, Halebid and Amritapura and other Jain monuments. Some drawings are by MacKenzie himself, others by his assistant surveyors and draftsmen, including H. Hamilton and J. Newman. The title page in this folio precedes the series of drawings of the narrative panels illustrating the epics of the Mahabharata and Bhagavata Purana that are carved on the railings of the open hall of the Hoysala Amriteshvara Temple at Amritpur.
