Pencil and wash drawing by Thomas and William Daniell of three figures from Agori (U.P.), dated 12 and 13 January 1790. Inscribed on front in pencil: 'Hindoo Figures - at Agouree, on the Soan.'

Agori, on the river Son, '...is a place of worhip of the greatest antiquity, which is obvious from the fragments of sculptured idols frequently to be met there. The village at present is not very considerable.' In the Journal that the young William Daniell kept we read (entry for 12 January 1790), 'On our arrival at Agouree a person from the fort crossed the river (Soane) & paid us the usual Complts&c - informed us that the Rajah was absent for some days, but that every attention should be paid us during our stay at Agouree. We crossed in a small flat bottom Canoe, & were shown part of the fort by the person before mentioned.'
