Map of the Red Hills and tank, Madras Presidency, showing the villages of Connoor and Corembet. By John Mustie.
Artist: John Mustie (b.1798)
Medium: Watercolour with pen and ink
This map is a fair copy prepared by John Mustie, some time between 1815 and 1820. The map that it is based on was probably made in around 1803. Mustie worked as a draftsman for Colin Mackenzie (1757-1821), the first Surveyor General of India. Before Mackenzie took up this appointment, he supervised the Survey of Mysore (1799-1810). Connoor, in modern day Tamil Nadu, lies just south of the Kingdom of Mysore, and was surveyed by Mackenzie's team in 1803-1804.
