Pen and ink and sepia wash drawing of a gateway in the town of Mirapur by Harriot Mary Woodcock (b. 1807) in July 1833. The drawing is inscribed: 'Mozuffergunge Gate Mirzapore July 1833. HMW', and on the reverse: 'Gate at Mirzapore July 1833' and on mount: 'H.M. Woodcock'.

Mirzapur is an ancient city on the Ganga River surrounded by hills and situated about halfway between Varanasi and Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh state, north central India. The town was formerly an important trading centre between central and western India and contains the famous shrine of the goddess Vindhyeshwari which is visited by many pilgrims. Along the river front are picturesque stone ghats, mosques, Hindu temples and houses.
