Water-colour painting of the river Ganges near Bhagalpur in Bihar with the steamer 'Hooghly' on the river by Thomas Prinsep (1800-1830) Sept/Oct 1828. Inscribed on the album page is: 'Ganges near Buglipoor'.

Thomas Prinsep was attached to the first experimental voyage, to Allahabad, of a wooden paddle steamer on the Ganges. The 'Hooghly', built by the New Howrah Dock Co. with a 25hp engine imported from England, was launched on 29 March 1828. See G.A.
