Plan and view of the pontoon bridge over the Ganges River at Varanasi (Benares) in Uttar Pradesh completed in pen and ink and water-colour by James Prinsep (1799-1840) in 1823-24. On the reverse is a cross section of the river showing high and low water marks. The inscribed text reads: 'Section of BC. The dotted line shows the Level of the small Buttress A whence the rest were measured. The Channel of the Burna was in 1823-4 50 feet broad in 1824-5 40 ditto'. .
