Ruins in Rotas Gur, Bahar
Artist and engraver: Daniell, Thomas (1749-1840)
Medium: Aquatint, coloured
Plate 2 from the third set of Thomas and William Daniells' 'Oriental Scenery.' Raja Man Singh of Amber (1587-1614) was a Rajput noble in the service of the Mughal emperors Akbar and Jahangir. For a time the hill fort of Rohtasgarh was his headquarters when he was Subahdar (Viceroy) of Bengal and Bihar. His palace is a rare example of Mughal architecture in eastern India as shown by features such as the columns with corbelled brackets, the miniature balconies and the roof-top domed pavilions.
