Plate seven from '24 Views in Indostanby William Orme'. This aquatint is based on a picture by Francis Swaine Ward (1736-1794). Tiruchchirappalli (known to the British as Trichinopoly) is a city situated on the bank of the river Kaveri in Tamil Nadu. Its most famous landmark is the Rock Fort, which towers 273 feet above the rest of the city. The rectangular stone building jutting out of the side of the Rock Fort contains a Shiva temple, and the temple at the rock's summit, where the flag is sailing, is dedicated to Ganesh.
