Plate twenty four from William Orme's '24 Views in Indostan'. This aquatint is based on a a picture by Thomas Daniell (1749-1840). The Qutb Minar is probably the most famous monuments in Delhi, and certainly one of the best known monuments in India. Construction of this enormous victory tower began in 1199 under the patronage of Qutb-ud-din Aibak. At 238 feet it is 80 feet higher than Nelson's Column in London.
