Plate five from 'Picturesque Scenery in the Kingdomof Mysore' by James Hunter (d.1792). This aquatint is based ona picture by Hunter showing a music gallery at the entrance to the mosque at Srirangapattnam. The ancient fortress city of Srirangapattnam (known as Seringapatam by the British) was the capital of the kings of Mysore, Haidar Ali (c.1722 - 1782) and his eldest son, Tipu Sultan (1753 -1799). Srirangapattnam is located on an island in the Cauvery (Kaveri) River approximately 9 miles from Mysore and 75 miles from Bangalore.
