Plate forty-five from the second volume of James Forbes'"Oriental Memoirs". Forbes (1749-1819) frequently visited the subterranean temple at Cambay in 1775. He was particularly taken in by 'a large subterraneous temple, covered by a dome, and entirely dark and on three sides of this temple are a number of emprty niches, a little above the floor, and on the east is an opening into another narrow temple, the length of the large one, which contains five images of white marble sitting in the eastern manner, two on each side of a throne placed under a magnificent canopy in the centre, which contains the celebrated statue of Parisnaut, one of the principal Hindoo deities'. Parshwanatha was one of the twenty-four Jaina Thirthankaras.
