While exploring the forests of Turcaseer in the neighbourhood of Bharuch where he was Collector, Forbes came across a young Sarus bird. A young Sarus crane was caught by one of his attendants was picked up by one of his attendants and taken to Dhaboi. The bird became a favourite of the household, petted and fed. He was 6ft high when fully grown and very domesticated by then. The crane was equally loved and tended by all at Bharuch. Later, when Fobres was no longer able to keep him, the bird was given away to a friend, who took it to England.
