Artist: Forbes, James
Plate sixty-three from James Forbes' "Oriental Memoirs". Forbes(1749-1819) was Collector of Dhaboi in the late 1770s and therefore responsible for the collection of land revenue. As part of his work he keenly observed various kinds of grains cultivated in the area of which he often made studies. Of the grains, Jowar, Bajra and Rice, Forbes wrote, 'These...grains...nutritive and valuable...were all drawn and coloured from nature; and when fully ripe, clothe the fertile pergunnas with the most luxuriant and varied beauty, in a province deservedly named the Paradise of Nations.'
