Photograph of an altar in the cathedral of St. Katherine, Goa, from the Lee-Warner Collection: 'Bombay Presidency', taken by by D'Souza and Paul in the 1880s. The See Cathedral or Cathedral of St. Katherine in Old Goa is the largest Christian church in Asia. It was commissioned by the Portuguese Viceroy Redondo (1561-64) and although commenced in 1562, it was not completed until 1652 when the altars were finished. The cathedral is a fine example of European Renaissance architecture; the interior is Corinthian in style and boasts several chapels and a total of 15 altars around the walls.
