Photograph of a ruined temple at Madanpur, Jhansi District, taken by an unknown photographer in c.1880s-90s. In the report of his tours between 1883 and 1885, A. Cunningham wrote, 'There are six temples in Madanpur, all more or less ruined...The two Brahmanical temples at the north-west corner of the lake must have been very fine buildings. The sanctum of both temples is gone entirely, but many stones still remain to show that they were highly decorated...The unfortunate proximity of the temples to the stone quarries, no doubt, led to the appropriation of the stones, both cut and incut, which were lying so handy for removal.
