Arcade in Darya Khan's Tomb, Ahmadabad
Photographer: Cousens, Henry
Medium: Photographic print
Photograph of the brick-built arcade in Darya Khan's Tomb at Ahmadabad in Gujarat, taken by Henry Cousens in the 1880s, for the Archaeological Survey of India. The tomb, built in 1453, is situated about a mile from the city's Delhi Gate. It is built of brick, unlike the other monuments in Gujarat which are built of stone. Around the central domed chamber are sixteen cells covered in smaller domes, forming a corridor around the tomb. This view shows the large cracks in some of the arches between the brick piers.
