This photograph of a view of buildings at Tiruvadi used by the Rajas of Tanjore, Tamilnadu, is part of a collection entitled 'Photographic Views in Tanjore and Trivady ' (Madras, 1858) and was taken by Linnaeus Tripe in 1858. View looking towards a group of buildings flanked by two pagoda-like dovecots: ''...The Rajahs of Tanjore were accustomed to spend much of their time in this charming retreat. It will be seen that the buildings are modern but though the details are European, the general effect is rather Chinese.''
