Photograph of the Siddheshvara Temple at Bahulara in Bankura District, taken by Joseph David Beglar in 1872-73. This Shiva temple was constructed from brick from the 11th century. The towered sanctuary is covered with mouldings and large arched motifs. J.D. Beglar, reported: ''The finest brick temple in the district, and the finest though not the largest that I have seen in Bengal, is the one at Bahulara, on the right bank of the Darikeswara River, 12 miles from Bankura; the temple is of brick, plastered; the ornamentation is carefully cut into the brick, and the plaster made to correspond to it...''
