Photograph of miscellaneous fragments of images from Brahmanabad in the Hyderabad District of Sindh in Pakistan, taken by Henry Cousens in 1896-7. Cousens wrote in Brahmanabad-Mansura in Sind, Archaeological Survey of India, Annual Report 1903-04, "The loose objects found during excavation embrace pottery of various kinds, clay balls and toys...mutilated Hindu images...Other objects of baked earthenware are balls of various sizes, measuring from two to six inches in diameter [middle left of this image]...They are found in great quantities, embedded in the earth, on the other side of the river, to the east of the city; and in the absence of stone, which is not found in this neighbourhood, they were no doubt used as missiles for slings and catapults. The people of the village call this spot, on that account, the top-khana or arsenal, and, curiously enough, it was here that we unearthed the basketful of rusted fragments of old swords."
