Photograph of the Mosque at Batwa near Ahmadabad in Gujarat, taken by order of Major Cole, by an Army sergeant in c. 1881, from the Archaeological Survey of India. Batwa, or Batura, is about six miles to the south of Ahmadabad. This mosque is situated in a complex near a group of tombs, including that of Qutb-ul-Alam (d.1452), Shah Alam's father. The mosque is a simple structure with three central domes and four smaller ones in front and over the back aisle. This image shows the colonnaded east fa├žade from the north-east.
