Photograph of Captured Guns in Kabul, taken by the Bengal Sappers and Miners, an engineering arm of the Indian Army in c. 1879 during the course of the Second Anglo-Afghan War (1878-80). It was taken in the Sherpur Cantonment at Kabul in Afghanistan. Following the death of the British resident, Cavagnari and his mission at Kabul in September 1879 General Roberts and his forces entered the city and occupied the Sherpur Cantonment. Roberts was tasked with punishing those responsible for the death of Cavagnari, securing his force at Kabul and establishing a line of communication with British forces via the Khyber Pass.
