Photograph of a colossal Buddha figure in the Barabar Hills, Bihar, taken by Thomas Fraser Peppé in 1870. Peppé wrote, 'On the east side of the hill there must have been a large temple, some few pillars of which are still standing, and a gigantic figure of the ascetic Boodh, measuring 8 feet high, with a breadth across the shoulders of 6 feet, still in its original position, with part of the original brick wall behind it.'
